TRT partners with Insys VT for cloud migration and advanced video encryption

November 12 2024: Turkey’s national public broadcaster, The Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) has adopted Insys Video Technologies’ solution for its streaming service, tabii, securing and encrypting eight 24/7 live sports channels, with plans to extend protection to more live channels in the future. Additionally, Insys VT is to migrate & encrypt TRT’s extensive VOD library to the AWS Cloud using the Cloud Video Kit and Cloud DRM, relying on AWS Media Services, and providing full technical support throughout the process.

tabii, TRT’s global streaming platform, with live and VOD content, offers its services in multiple languages, including Turkish, English, Arabic, Azeri, and Kurdish, and is accessible on various devices such as web browsers, mobile, and smart TV. Since its launch in May 2023, tabii has achieved remarkable success, attracting over 4 million subscribers in Turkey and globally, drawing diverse audiences from various backgrounds.

As part of their global expansion and to better manage subscriber growth, TRT aimed to migrate to a scalable cloud infrastructure with advanced video protection and encryption capabilities. However, with the upcoming Champions League—one of the most popular football competitions—TRT also required dependable DRM software to meet the licensing requirements to live stream the matches. Just a week before the first game, Insys VT implemented Cloud Video Kit to stream and secure eight of TRT’s 24/7 live sports channels, with plans to expand to more channels in the future.

Cloud Video Kit, powered by AWS Cloud and Media Services, is a modular one-stop solution for video processing, management, and distribution. It facilitates the entire media workflow, from upload and storage to transcoding, packaging, and delivery, ensuring that live and VOD content is managed efficiently.

Ahmet Raşit Taşçi, Digital Solution Lead at TRT, said: “tabii is experiencing unprecedented growth rates, prompting us to ensure our subscribers remain satisfied and continue enjoying the best viewing experience possible. We needed to shift from our existing DRM solution to a more scalable and flexible cloud-based approach, including migrating our VOD library.

“Since timing was crucial, we were relieved that Insys VT could quickly provide us with an easy to integrate, reliable solution that handles peak viewership without hiccups.”

“I’m pleased to say this project wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for our strong partnership with Amazon Web Services and a long-term investment in cloud-native products” Krzysztof Bartkowski, co-founder, and CEO at Insys Video Technologies added. “Having all our products available on AWS and the adaptability of our Cloud Video Kit and Cloud DRM were crucial for a quick time-to-market in this case. This proven cooperation with AWS facilitated a smooth deployment and ensured our solutions meet the high demands of live broadcasting, especially when gearing up for big events like the Champions League or the Olympics where the stakes and viewer numbers are high.”

As an AWS Advanced Tier Services Partner, Insys Video Technologies integrates AWS Media Services to build media workflows for live and VOD streaming, covering video transcoding, packaging, encryption, and storage. AWS Media Services provides the most comprehensive set of purpose-built media tools and appliances in the cloud, making it easier to manage, transform, and deliver digital content efficiently.
